Latest Information on the
Costas.
Hi welcome to our first info Spain
section. This section will be updated frequently on what is going on in Spain. This is the last month of the
year of 2010 and Spain is still in the middle of a recession. A recession that has seen property prices crash
to there lowest levels in a decade. Prices have fallen by as much as 40% and all this year some people were
desperate to sell their property as the recession was affecting the UK and other countries as well. But prices are
levelling out now and some builders are contemplating putting up their prices on January 1st 2010. The bargains are
drying up now and bank repossession are a dangerous way of investing in property.

Eating and drinking out in Spain is still very cheap compared to other
countries. A typical three course dinner including drinks for two would cost under 20 Euros. A
steak meal can cost from 12.95 Euros per person and a two course lunch a mere 5.95 Euros.
Of course food, drink and cigarettes are much cheaper here in Spain. But be warned the same rules that apply
in the UK on smoking will apply in eating and drinking places in Spain next year.
The Spanish
language is not the easiest to learn take my word for it, there are so many verbs its difficult. But if you are
in Spain it is good to learn at least some words. Yes a lot of Spanish speak English, especial the younger Spanish
but its there country and we should always remember that.
How about the weather in the UK, amazing. Here in Spain we do
not have a spring or autumn, we just have a summer and winter. Believe it or not two weeks ago our winter
arrived with temperatures dropping to 8 degrees at night ( that's not cold you say). Well it feels cold to us,
you have to remember the houses here are designed for the heat, not the cold. During the day we still have
temperature 18-22 degrees but the houses get cold at night.
When we came here over 8 years ago we would go about with shorts and short sleeves but we have acclimatised
and now wear a cardigan or a jacket. What about the Spanish, well they go about with scarf's and heavy coats and
the odd fur coat can be seen. Then there's the tourist they wear shorts and a few are topples (that's the men by
the way).
The beaches now have
very few visitors and you can have a nice refreshing walk without having to dress for winter and there's
always the nice warm sun.
It may be a bit cold for jumping in the Mediterranean but there is always some people having a
swim. Remember the Spanish will always politely say good day (Buenos dias) to you. Just
repeat it back to them with a friendly smile.
